Andreas Brade
“In my lessons I always aim for an inspiring,
challenging and fun environment. Mistakes
are a part of learning, in my lessons, there is
the time and place for it.”
Andreas Brade was born and raised in Waiblingen, Germany. He started playing the
drums in his early teens, taking lessons, participating in school band and different
rock projects, as well as performing with his dad’s 1920’s coffee house orchestra
“Melange”.
After listening to Billy Cobham’s recording “Spectrum”, Andreas felt driven to
pursue more serious training and moved to Boston to enroll at Berklee College of
Music and study Jazz Performance. During this time, he was exposed to many
different world music rhythms, which had a lasting effect, influencing his current
teaching and playing style. After years of teaching and performing, Andreas earned
a Master of Music in Modern American Music from Longy School of Music.
Andreas has had the honor of performing at venues and festivals such as The
Kennedy Center, The Montreal Jazz Festival, Boston Symphony Hall, The BAM Cafe,
The Blue Note and the Apollo Cafe, to name a few. Through the years, he has
enjoyed playing with many inspirational artists such as Balla Tounkara, Lorrain
Claasen, The Zamir Chorale, Gifrants and Rubblebucket.
Andreas feels that his teaching is helping students develop strong technical skills
and musicality, in addition to nurture passion, hard work, problem solving and an
open mind to different music styles and feels. Andreas is thrilled to be a part of the
BMS faculty, as he believes that this culturally diverse and community based school
is the ideal environment for building these essential skills of good musicianship.
